X-Rite acquires Sensible Graphics Gmbh

2013 is the year for acquisitions.

Sensible Graphics developped a technology for capturing and creating materials that enable physically correct simulations. X-Rite will be launching a new ecosystem for using measurement-based digital data for correct simulations of real world materials. I had the chance to look at it at the Pi-Vr conference and to try it in VRED, it is amazing technology (see one of my previous post and video), I hope this technology gets more standart in the CGI industry in the future, with help of X-Rite I think it will come soon.

Autodesk acquires Pi-Vr

From the Pi-Vr website:

"We would like to inform our clients and partners that PI-VR GmbH has been acquired by Autodesk Inc. Autodesk intends to integrate Autodesk technologies into the PI-VR platform, while continuing to sell, support and enhance the PI-VR product line resulting in no significant impact to PI-VR customers. The PI-VR team, including Osman Dumbuya, will join the Autodesk Design, Lifecycle and Simulation (DLS) product organization.

"I am very happy about these new developments, especially about the expanding opportunities for our software VRED. Our main goal will always be to offer the best high-end visualization software to our customers. This acquisition is more like a fusion that enables us to expand in the field of 3D visualization. This also means a tremendous potential for growth to our customers with fewer risk factors." - Osman Dumbuya

Please contact marketing(at)pi-vr.de with questions. We will answer as soon as possible directly or via news feeds on our website. For further information, please read the press release."

BTF materials in VRED Professionnal

I was at Impress3D conference from PI-VR, Sensible graphics was showing their BTF (bilinear texture function) scanning and integration in VRED, I was very impressed by the quality they can provide, for very complex materials as fabrics, impossible to reproduce it another way. It works in OpenGL as well as raytacing, so you can use it for design projects and reuse it in brochure productions.
